Captain Gopinath is a pioneering Indian entrepreneur and retired Indian Army officer. He is best known for founding Air Deccan, India’s first low-cost airline, which made air travel affordable for millions of Indians. There has even been a film on his life released this year.
In addition to his entrepreneurial achievements, Captain Gopinath is also an accomplished author. His books, “Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey”, “You Cannot Miss This Flight: Essays on Emerging India”, provide insights into his journey and the challenges he faced in transforming the aviation sector. “ “Our India: Reflections on a Nation Betwixt and Between " offers a comprehensive view of India’s socio-political landscape, reflecting on its contradictions and potential. Drawing from his diverse experiences as an army officer, entrepreneur, and concerned citizen, Gopinath provides a unique perspective on the nation’s contradictions and potential. The book delves into issues of business, politics, governance, aviation, and society, painting a comprehensive picture of an India in constant flux.

About Captain Gopinath

Captain Gopinath, born on November 13, 1951, in Gorur, Karnataka, is a pioneering Indian entrepreneur and retired Indian Army officer. He is best known for founding Air Deccan, India’s first low-cost airline, which revolutionized air travel by making it affordable for millions. After serving in the Indian Army and participating in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, he ventured into entrepreneurship, starting with a sericulture farm and later launching Air Deccan in 2003. Gopinath is also an accomplished author, with notable works including “Simply Fly”, “You Cannot Miss This Flight”, and “Our India”. His visionary approach has left a lasting impact on India’s aviation industry.
About Ravi Srinivasan
Ravi Srinivasan has had a long and fruitful career in Human Resource development, where he worked in various roles, the longest one being in ITC where he was Vice President in ITC's Agri Business. He was the Executive Director of Sangeet Research Academy from where he retired. Ravi now lives in Good Earth Malhar, where he is a part of many community groups, driving initiatives.
