Dive into the vibrant world of Gond art from Madhya Pradesh in this two-day workshop designed for young creators aged 12-18. Over two consecutive Sundays, participants will explore the captivating storytelling tradition of Gond art. This hands-on workshop will guide students in blending personal expression with Gond’s traditional aesthetic The workshop output will involve them creating their own Gond-style story.

Workshop Highlights:

- Day 1:
- Introduction to Gond Art:
- Learn about the origins, motifs, and symbolism of Gond art
- A bit about the culture of the region and the tribal way of life
- Animal Imagination Exercise:
- Study the depiction of animals used in Gond art
- Each participant will choose an animal and a setting that reflects their own personality, traits, or aspirations.
- Introduction to Gond Art:
- Day 1:
(By envisioning their traits in animal form, they can both directly relate to the artform and connect better with it.)
(Here we should let them keep the animals in colour and the setting in black and white for visual cohesion in all the outcomes.)
Story Mapping:

- Start drafting a visual narrative (story or just a setting) around their chosen animal, using Gond-style elements.

- Creating the Artwork - Participants bring their stories to life, illustrating their animals and their stories in the traditional Gond style.

Materials Provided: All required materials (drawing paper, colors, brushes, and other reference material) are included in the workshop fee.
Who Should Attend: This workshop is ideal for young art enthusiasts aged 12-18 who are eager to learn about Indian folk art and develop their own traditional artistic expression.
Nisha Vikram, founder of CraftCanvas, has over 15 years of experience in the craft sector. CraftCanvas collaborates with over 30 craft clusters across India and works on integrating traditional crafts into modern lifestyles. Their clientele ranges from international brands like Hermes, hospitality leaders such as Oberoi and Taj group of hotels, the Honourable Prime Minister’s office, and several other award-winning projects. Nisha has previously taught courses on craft design thinking at CEPT University and NID and has conducted artisan training sessions in collaboration with CEPT University and DCH, Gujarat.
