Jazz, Folk and Song

The Sonic Alchemists is an instrumental music group set up by Eshaan Sood. The group plays a blend of improvised music based on styles like modern jazz, folk and song form music. The band has a rotating line up of musicians depending on where they perform, but at its core one thing is constant - Groovalicious Sonic Alchemy. The different members bring their own backgrounds and tastes using the band as a vehicle to give life to the music written by its various members at the time.

About the Performers

Eshaan Sood

Eshaan Sood is a musician, composer, guitarist and a fellow human of the world currently living in Rochester, New York. Born and raised in New Delhi, India he started playing music at the age of 12. While he in his words says "... I didn't really take it seriously till I was 20."

He has dabbled with a lot of instruments in that 8 year span ranging from exploring rhythms from around the world on the drums, tabla and congas to delving into melody and harmony on the piano and guitar. He finally decided to devote his time to making the world a happier place through his guitar, That pursuit has led him to use his time spent at the Srishti School of Art, Global Music Institute and now at The Eastman School of music to hone both his performative and compositional craft.

He currently plays with his own Jazz trio presenting music from the traditional Jazz Cannon, his group the Sonic Alchemists that delves into his instrumental compositional world and a long standing collaboration with Priyana Chauhan in Eshaan & Priyana that explores where song meets words.

Akshada Krishnan

Akshada Krishnan is a Goa-based pianist and improviser. She  has been playing the piano since the age of 7. Having been  mostly self-taught, she initially leaned towards contemporary  styles and western classical music.

She started learning under Aman Mahajan from 2018 and then  got introduced to jazz and improvisation. She now specializes  in improvised music, jazz, contemporary and minimalistic  styles. Akshada’s improvised music projects involve various lineups.  They interpret compositions as fluid narratives and  soundscapes painting concepts of motion-stillness through a  play of consonant- dissonant harmonies. Akshada enjoys  performing solo piano repertoires, especially at intimate  spaces and for improvised music enthusiasts.

Rohit PS

Rohit is an accomplished drummer/educator with close to a decade’s experience playing a multitude of genres(Pop, Rock, Jazz, Hip hop, Afro-Cuban) etc. He has performed with numerous artists, both Indian and international such as Shilpa Ananth(New York), Drew OfThe Drew(Los Angeles), Akram Abdulfattah(Palestine), Jagadeesh M.R(India) Aman Mahajan(India), Prakash Sontakke(India), Radha Thomas(India) to name a few.

He notably won the ‘Drum-off India 2021’ championship and was one of the finalists in the 'Drum-off global 2021' where he was chosen to represent India.

His current projects include MoonArra(Jazz fusion), Aman Mahajan(Jazz), UNK- The Radha Thomas Ensemble, Final Vinyl(Pop jazz). Rohit also does studio recordings for songwriters.

Rohit is also an established teacher and has taught more than a 100 students till date.

Sricharan Sunder

Sricharan Sunder was musically influenced early since his mother and grandmother are both carnatic vocalists. Following in their footsteps, he also started learning vocals fairly early in his life. Through the years, Sricharan has developed tastes and skills in different genres of music and enjoys listening to all genres and "stealing" ideas from them. Sricharan primarily plays the bass guitar but also dabbles in the piano, guitar and vocals.
