The VIMOR  Museum of Living Textiles, an initiative of the Vimor Handloom Foundation,  is the first of its kind in the country, co-created with community support and donations from individuals, families, and weavers. It is a museum of common people's fabric rather than of period textiles with royal patronage. It also establishes the emotional connection to people’s family heirlooms. The museum also focuses on a community-sourced collection and will showcase Bangalore and Karnataka through its forgotten textiles. The museum is a space that houses a range of contemporary handloom textiles. It is housed in a 1300 sq.ft space and has a collection of over 400 pieces. The museum has emerged from Vimor’s 45-year engagement with weaving communities and the creation of unique products and designs. Vimor was started in 1974 by Mrs. Chimy Nanjappa and Pavithra Muddaya. Vimor is strongly anchored in the philosophy of Weaver autonomy and dignity as the starting point for all interventions with the handloom weaving community.  Through the rich oral tradition of story-telling, the museum aims to preserve and hand down design stories to future generations to relive their grandmother’s legacy.
