“Rage is Yellow” was a remarkable creation by seven women from across the globe who, during a two-week residency at Courtyard Koota, Bengaluru, Karnataka, delved into a myriad of ideas surrounding female rage and its origins. This physical theatre/dance performance successfully decoded female rage, presenting it as a powerful tool in today’s feminist landscape. The performance also explored the softer, internal aspects of rage, examining how care can be offered by a sensitive collective as an antidote to suppressed rage.

The performance artists utilized non-hierarchical devising processes, emphasizing listening to one another and tenderly discussing deep-rooted spheres of anger.

The performers included Alice (Italy), Coco (Germany), Luci (Australia), Prakriti (India), Sarah (New Zealand), Surekha (Australia), and Veena (India).

The project was supported by the government of Western Australia and the Department of Local Government and Cultural Industries.

About Cartoon Natyam Performance Series:

Cartoon Natyam, an initiative by Veena Basavrajaiah, created a space addressing issues within the art world. Initially an online forum using cartoons and illustrations to spark discussions on social and political issues affecting artists and their practice, Cartoon Natyam expanded to curate a series of live performances in collaboration with Courtyard Koota. This series brought audiences works by various artists engaging with personal and political questions through their art, fostering dialogue between art, practice, and audience.
